In a widely shared TikTok video, Nigerian comedian Okon cautioned men against losing themselves in an attempt to win over women, likening it to trying to surpass God. The video has generated a lot of online discussion.
Using the 48 Laws of Power, Okon makes a contentious analogy in the video, stating: “One of the 48 laws of power is that you should not try to outshine your master.”
He continued by enumerating a number of cosmetic techniques that women follow, implying that males shouldn’t attempt to keep up with their frequent changes because they reveal a degree of discontent:
“If the hair is coily, they stretch it. If it’s straight, they curl it.
If it’s black, they dye it white. If it’s white, they dye it black — sometimes pink.
Eyebrows? Natural o, they shave am, draw another one.
Eyelashes? Fix on top the one wey God give them.
Thin lips? Surgery. Big breast? Reduction.
Small breast? Implant. No nyash? Implant. Big nyash? Reduction.
Black skin? Bleaching cream. Fair skin? Sun tanning.”
He said as he concluded the video: “If God wey create them never satisfy them, how much more you, ordinary person? You wan out do God? You dey try outshine your master? You dey set yourself up for destruction.”
Since then, the video has been popular on social media, with many users agreeing, discussing, and analyzing his point of view.
