Village youths capture bandit during midnight attack in Benue

Early on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, gunmen who were thought to be bandits attacked Bigwa village in Mbayenge, Ukum Local Government Area, Benue State.

According to witnesses, the attackers broke into the community at around two in the morning, but the local kids fought back and organized to protect the town.

Some of the robbers fled wounded during the encounter, while one was overpowered and taken prisoner.

It was also reported that the altercation had injured a number of young people.

Since then, the apprehended suspect has been turned over to security organizations for examination.

While applauding the youths’ bravery in resisting the attackers, community residents urged the government and security services to increase local security in order to stop future attacks.
