Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called on U.S. President Donald Trump to visit Ukraine firsthand in order to “understand what President Vladimir Putin did.”

Speaking to CBS on Sunday, the Ukrainian leader said, “Please, before any kind of decisions, any kind of forms of negotiations, come to see people, civilians, warriors, hospitals, churches, children destroyed or dead,” addressing President Trump.

This plea comes as global diplomatic efforts led in part by President Trump are underway. Meanwhile, Russian missile strikes targeted Sumy on Sunday morning, resulting in the deaths of at least 34 individuals and injuring 83 more, according to multiple reports.

Two ballistic missiles struck the city’s bustling downtown area as residents gathered for Palm Sunday services.
