Russia-Ukraine War: Putin has to prove he wants peace – Macron

In the midst of his nation’s ongoing conflict with Russia, French President Emmanuel Macron has disclosed the two main goals of his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

“Zelenskyy wants to work with Europeans and Americans to establish an unconditional ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine,” Macron said.

This was revealed by the French leader on Saturday in a tweet from his official X account.

He said he had a really good conversation with Zelenskyy on Saturday in Rome, where international leaders were attending Pope Francis’s funeral.

Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, must now show that he genuinely wants peace with Ukraine, the 47-year-old said.

Macron said, “Ending the war in Ukraine. This is the goal we share with President Trump.

“Ukraine is ready for an unconditional ceasefire. President Zelenskyy reiterated this to me today. He wants to work alongside the Americans and Europeans to implement it.

“Now it’s up to President Putin to prove he truly wants peace.”

This comes after US President Donald Trump said that, in light of the conflict in Ukraine, secondary sanctions should be used to deal with Putin in a new way.
