W.F Kumuyi rebukes Deeper Life lady who said women using rubber to make their hair will go to hell

The Deeper Christian Life Ministry’s General Superintendent, Pastor W.F. Kumuyi, has responded to and categorically denied a contentious video that went viral on social media in which a female churchgoer asserted that ladies who braid their hair with rubber bands are doomed to hell.

The woman claimed to have had a spiritual revelation cautioning her against using rubber for hair, stating that string is the only suitable material. She further asserted that prior to her death, Pastor Kumuyi’s late wife had to confess her use of rubber ties.

Pastor Kumuyi addressed these claims directly during a workers’ meeting, calling them unfounded and deceptive. He voiced grave concerns about the increasing tendency among Christians to place more importance on unimportant external appearances than on the central message of Christianity.

He contends that such assertions are not only unbiblical but also serve to deflect focus from the essential spiritual objectives of sanctification, salvation, and leading a moral life.

“I lived with my wife. She never used anything like that. There was nothing to repent from,” he said. “These are complete lies and nonsense.”

Kumuyi warned that the propagation of visions and teachings based on fear and without a scriptural foundation can deceive followers and undermine the ministry’s integrity.

In addition, he demanded immediate remedial action and questioned why the woman’s region’s church leadership had not stepped in sooner.

Pastor Kumuyi underlined that the church’s mission is to guide people into a closer relationship with God founded on purity and truth, not to regulate individual grooming practices.

He asked the church in his closing remarks to be committed to sharing the gospel and not let sensational, unsubstantiated charges distract from the core mission of Christianity.
