Due to suspected test misconduct in Kogi State, the West African Examination Council (WAEC) has placed 13 schools—including 14 supervisors—on a blacklist.
This was revealed in Lokoja by Hon. Wemi Jones, the Commissioner for Education, after a meeting with a few supervisors and principals who had been charged by the West African Examination Council (WAEC) with alleged test malpractice.
In line with Kogi State Education Law and Other Matters Connected Therewith, 2020, the Commissioner stated that “any principal, teachers, and supervisors who aid and abet examination malpractices will henceforth be prosecuted.”
Jones underlined that cheating on an exam is illegal and will be dealt with legally.
The Commissioner also revealed that a Permanent Secretary-led committee has been established to look into the persons that WAEC implicated, and that anyone found to be lacking will face legal action.
“Kogi State Government has invested so much in education and will no longer tolerate the attitude of some bad eggs drawing back the gains already made in the education sector.
“Whoever is promoting examination malpractices is an enemy of Kogi State and must be kicked out of the system,” he added.
Additionally, Dr. Jibrin Seidu Alhaji, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, cautioned supervisors and principals against taking any measures that could damage Kogi State’s reputation.
