As per a report from Iran’s semi-official Iranian Labor News Agency (ILNA) on Sunday, former Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was killed in an alleged joint airstrike by Israel and the US.
The strike reportedly aimed at Ahmadinejad’s residence in the Narmak district of northeast Tehran, resulting in his death along with that of several members of his security detail.
International media sources suggested the strike likely took place late Saturday, although independent confirmation has not been immediately available.
From 2005 to 2013, Ahmadinejad held the office of president in Iran. Before his presidency, he occupied significant roles such as governor of Ardabil Province and mayor of Tehran.
After finishing his two presidential terms, he received an appointment to the Expediency Discernment Council from then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. This 48-member advisory body provides counsel to the Office of the Supreme Leader and mediates conflicts among Iran’s governing institutions.
