Bauchi State Governor and Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Bala Mohammed, has issued a warning about an impending political “war,” characterizing his confrontation with the Presidency as the most intense to date. He cautioned that if President Bola Tinubu’s administration persists in its “random and incessant” arrests of opposition figures, it will lead to this conflict.
On Wednesday, February 18, 2026, in Bauchi, the Governor addressed a charged crowd of supporters and party stakeholders, accusing the Federal Government of using the EFCC and other security agencies as “political debt collectors” to pressure opposition leaders into joining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Governor Mohammed, known for his outspoken criticism of the administration’s economic policies, made it clear that he would not yield to federal pressure.
He disclosed that, despite numerous “clandestine overtures” and threats of legal action, he does not plan to abandon the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“If they continue with this random and incessant arrest of our leaders, we will have no choice but to declare war,” Mohammed thundered.
“They are using the EFCC to harass anyone who refuses to join their party. Let me say it clearly: no amount of intimidation, no amount of blackmail, and no amount of ‘file-opening’ will make me join the APC. We will meet them on the field in 2027.”
The Governor’s tirade comes on the heels of the recent high-profile arrest of former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai and the N189 billion EFCC investigation involving Senator Aminu Tambuwal. Mohammed contended that the Presidency is systematically “decapitating” the opposition to guarantee a smooth and unchallenged second-term run.
“They want a one-party state where nobody can question why a bag of rice is N100,000, but Bauchi is not for sale, and the PDP is not for surrender.” he added.
The Governor’s “war cry” has energized his supporters, but it has also attracted strong criticism from Nigerians tired of the elite’s “theatrical” struggles.
Traditionally, the Presidency has brushed off such claims as “noise from those with skeletons in their cupboards.” With the Electoral Act now a law and opposition leaders creating a “Mega Party” coalition, however, the political temperature is escalating to perilous levels.
By Wednesday night, the APC National Secretariat had not provided a formal reply to the Governor’s “war” threat. However, for the people of Bauchi and beyond, the message is unmistakable: the journey to 2027 will not be lined with “Renewed Hope,” but rather with a “Roforofo” struggle for survival.
