An elderly widow with no children, Madam Comfort Okwuonu, will spend Yuletide this year in a unique way. She has reason to be grateful as Chief Ahamdi Nweke, a lawyer, built and gifted a brand-new three-bedroom flat to her.

After learning of her predicament of staying in a church hall in Omoba, Abia State’s Isiala South Council Area, Nweke intervened within two months.

The benefactor, a London-trained lawyer/politician, stood for the Abia Central Senate seat in 2023 on behalf of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Nweke said he was moved to learn that the impoverished widow had been sleeping in a church hall for years due to lack at the handover of the bungalow in Umuezurike, Ike-Ahaba village, Isiala Ngwa South.

He claimed that by making the poor in society smile, the gesture was a means of demonstrating love and compassion. Then he declared that the widow had been adopted as his mother.

Nweke’s group, the Udo Abia Foundation Women’s Prayer Network, was led by Mrs. Mercy Alozie, who praised him for the gesture and encouraged other affluent people and government officials to follow suit by helping the poor.

The 80-year-old recipient, Okwuonu, also called Da Nchama, was incredibly appreciative. She emphasised that the accomplishment God had used him to accomplish would not go unappreciated and thanked the sponsor for his kindness.
