Why Miyetti Allah formed vigilante group in Nasarawa

The Fulani Socio-Cultural Association has established a Nomad Vigilante group, Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore.

The action is intended to address growing security concerns, especially in Nasarawa State, and supplement conventional security institutions’ work.

At a gathering in Lafia on Wednesday, the association’s National President, Bello Bodejo, declared the creation of the Nomad Vigilante.

One hundred forty-four Fulani youths from thirteen Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Nasarawa State make up the first batch.

In a statement, Bodejo said that further candidates are being profiled and that the goal is to recruit up to 4,000 young people to cover all Fulani areas fully.

Bodejo emphasized the vigilante group’s dedication to intelligence collection and surveillance to solve issues like kidnapping and banditry and gave an assurance that they will actively work with security agencies to identify and apprehend criminal elements within the Fulani community.

He pleaded with Nigerians not to punish criminals based on their ethnic origin, saying that everyone found committing a crime should be treated as a criminal.

Nasarawa State’s Commissioner of Police, Umar Nadada, praised Miyetti Allah for the idea and noted that the establishment was appropriate given the security threats facing the state and the country.

The commissioner assured the group that the police would be willing to work with any organization concerned about protecting people and property.

Nadada stressed the need for the Nomad Vigilante to refrain from enforcing the law independently. He reiterated that the group is not authorized to use firearms when conducting operations, even as he advised them to report any suspicious activity to security agencies.

Representatives from various security agencies and the Nigerian Army attended the opening event.
