The sealing of the Renewed Hope Agenda office on Ojike Street in the state capital of Umuahia has been clarified by Abia State Governor Alex Otti.
In a statement sent by his Chief Press Secretary, Ukoha Ukoha, the governor clarified that the decision was not politically driven, despite opposition members’ misconceptions.
According to Otti, the sealing was done as part of a general enforcement of court orders by the state’s Harmonized Task Force.
However, he said that once Benjamin Kalu, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, brought the issue to his attention, he had issued an order to unseal the property.
He claims that the action has no political overtones and cautions against attributing motivations to the harmonized taskforce’s actions.
“The unsealing was promptly executed pending the regularisation of the building’s documentation.
“This enforcement was not politically motivated; rather, it was part of a general exercise targeting properties in default of statutory obligations,” the statement said.
It further stated that demand notices asking for evidence of compliance with ground rent and other associated charges were not answered by the property’s owner.
