The Advancing a Healthier Wisconsin Endowment, a programme of the Medical College of Wisconsin, has committed $5.6 million to support the mental well-being of Wisconsin’s healthcare workforce. A $3.2 million award will fund an initiative to develop a long-term mental well-being strategy for public health workers in collaboration with the Wisconsin Hospital Association (WHA) and the Dr Lorna Breen Heroes’ Foundation.
Nadine Allen, WHA chief quality officer, emphasised the importance of the initiative, stating, “By breaking down barriers to mental health support and adopting evidence-based strategies, we can strengthen Wisconsin’s healthcare workforce and improve care for the communities they serve.
Additionally, a $2.5 million award to the Wisconsin Medical Society will establish the Wisconsin Healthcare Professional Services programme, providing confidential support for healthcare professionals struggling with behavioural, psychiatric, or substance misuse issues. The program will be implemented in collaboration with several healthcare organisations.
Wisconsin Medical Society CEO Mike Flesher highlighted the program’s impact, saying, “By prioritising those who care for us, [the program will] ensure all Wisconsinites receive high-quality care from a stable, supported, and healthy workforce for years to come.
