During a joint security operation, the Yobe State Hisbah Commission stormed the Walawa hamlet in Garin-Alkali, Bursari Local Government Area, resulting in multiple arrests and confiscation.
This was revealed on Monday by Dr. Yahuza Hamza, the executive head of the commission, who stated that the operation was intended to stop antisocial and immoral behavior that was thought to be detrimental to the moral fabric of society.
According to him, during the operation, “A large consignment of alcohol, equivalent to four truck vehicles fully loaded, was confiscated.
“Also, a total of 84 persons were arrested, comprising 50 women and 34 men engaged in prostitution,” he stated.
He went on to say that all of the suspects are in jail and will face appropriate charges in court in compliance with Yobe State law, and that the commission had sealed all of the homes where the actions had taken place.
“The Yobe State Hisbah Commission remains firmly committed to its objectives, which include promoting morality in line with Islamic teachings and cultural values, curbing social vices such as prostitution, gambling, alcoholism, and drug abuse, protecting the dignity of women and children, and ensuring the society remains guided by the principles of justice, decency and respect, among others,” he said.
Dr. Hamza further exhorted the population to continue being watchful, law-abiding, and helpful to security forces.
