The House of Representatives has urged the Federal Government to increase military presence and step up security operations in Yobe State in response to rising ISWAP-related violence. This appeal came after a motion was presented by Hon. Khadijat Bukar Abba Ibrahim, highlighting growing insecurity in the region.
Yusuf Ali, the Yobe State representative for Digital and Strategic Communications, shared that the motion put forward by Hon. Khadijat Bukar Abba Ibrahim, who serves Damaturu, Gujba, Gulani, and Tarmuwa Federal Constituency drew attention to a deadly incident on April 18, 2025, in Ngurbuwa village. That attack resulted in the deaths of two soldiers and several local vigilantes.
He added that the violence forced many residents to flee and led to the destruction of a vital bridge that connected the village to other parts of the state.
Ali also mentioned that the lawmaker referred to another violent episode that took place on May 3, 2025, in Buni Yadi strikingly, just hours after a regional security meeting had been held in the town.
Following her presentation, the House called on the Ministry of Defence, security forces, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the North East Development Commission (NEDC), and the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs to promptly improve security efforts and provide relief assistance to the affected areas.
