At least 84 people were killed in a vicious attack on the Mafa hamlet in Tarmuwa Local Government Area, and the Yobe State Government held a mass funeral for them on Wednesday.

About 150 suspected Boko Haram members, fully equipped with rifles and rocket-propelled grenades, rushed the community on more than 50 motorbikes, according to state Police Public Relations Officer Dungus Abdulkarim, who confirmed the incident.

“The assault caused massive damage, burning shops and homes and driving nearly all the villagers to flee to Babangida,” Abdulkarim said.

However, locals have returned to Mafa, he continued, and no further instances have been reported.
