Nasir El-Rufai, a former governor of Kaduna State, has responded to Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, pledging to serve only one term.
Four years is insufficient to bring about significant change in Nigeria, El-Rufai urged Obi to abandon such a pledge.
While appearing on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, the prominent African Democratic Congress (ADC) member gave a speech.
El-Rufai recalled that both Obi and Rotimi Amaechi had served as governors and claimed that no Nigerian believed in their promise of a one-term presidency.
He said: “On the question of people saying they will come out and do one term, I don’t think that anyone believes them and I don’t think that it’s right.
“You should not constitutionally give up what is yours and frankly, as someone who has been governor for eight years, Amaechi and Peter Obi have both been governors.
“They know the time it takes to make meaningful changes in governance, four years is not enough.
“I want to appeal to everyone to stop making this commitment of I will do four years because nobody believes you.”
