Pastor David Ibiyeomie, the founder of Salvation Ministries, has advised members of his church to ensure that the amount they give as offerings surpasses their tithes.

He explained that tithing typically 10 percent of one’s income is fundamental to unlocking financial blessings.

He said, “Tithe is the foundation of your covenant to prosperity. Don’t wait untill month end before you pay your tithe. Anytime you get money pay 10% back to God as a lifestyle.”

Pastor Ibiyeomie further urged that offerings should not only match but exceed the tithe, recommending that believers commit at least 20 percent of their earnings.

He linked his own financial success to this principle, claiming that generous giving plays a role in avoiding financial hardship.

He said in his sermon, “In a month your offering should be bigger than your tithe. My offering for instance, I don’t give less than 20 percent, that’s why I’m not poor. Increase your offering more than your tithe and you’ll never be broke.”

Still, the pastor’s message has drawn criticism from some who argue that encouraging such large donations could place a strain on worshippers, especially given the current economic climate.

Responding to the message, an X user identified as Ikechukwu Seed Mkpulu wrote:

“Offering 20%
Tithe 10%
Total 30%

30% of your hard earned money must go to Pastor Ibiyeomie’s bank account if you really want to go to heaven. Nigerian pastors are worse than Nigerian politicians. Tufiakwa.”
