The Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Zamfara State chapter has clarified its position on recent events in the region by disputing reports that it held a political rally in Talata Mafara.
The PDP clarified that a delegation of party leaders traveled to Talata Mafara for two distinct reasons in a statement provided to reporters in Gusau, the state capital, by the party’s publicity secretary, Haliru Andi.
First, to offer the Mafara Emirate our sympathies for the recent attack on Jangebe town and the unfortunate gunpowder explosion.
Second, in compliance with the party’s internal administrative protocols, to deliver appointment letters to recently hired party executives in a private meeting.
“We want to categorically state that the PDP was not involved in any political rally in Talata Mafara and completely dissociates itself from such an event. The gathering in question does not represent the party’s position or intentions,” Andi emphasized.
He emphasized that the PDP fully respects and complies with the state government’s continued ban on political gatherings and reaffirmed the party’s commitment to doing so.
“In line with this commitment, the PDP has also suspended the planned inauguration of its zonal offices across the three senatorial districts,” he added.
The party also called on its members and opposition parties to abide by the order and not host political rallies in the state during this time.
