According to recent surveys by major American media outlets, people are becoming less trusting of President Donald Trump’s administration, even Republicans who support the ruling party.
According to recent studies by the New York Times/Siena College, Fox News, and the Associated Press-Norc Center for Public Affairs Research, the president did poorly on immigration and the economy because some people believe he is “exceeding powers” and concentrating on the wrong problems.
The majority of respondents to the poll, which was made public last week, called Trump’s second year in office thus far “scary.”
Just 24% of Americans, according to a survey, think Trump has prioritized the proper things while in office.
The majority of voters are against Trump’s trade policies and cuts to the federal workforce, and more over half of them are unhappy with his performance as president.
Next week marks the 100th day of the US President’s second term in office, which coincides with this review.
It implied that some of his initiatives, like reciprocal tariffs and chilling deportations, are already wearing Americans down.
According to a poll released this weekend by the Associated Press-Norc Center for Public Affairs Research, even Republicans do not strongly believe that Trump has been receiving the correct kind of attention.
Trump is focused on the “right priorities,” according to a slim majority of Republicans (54%) polled, while the President’s support among important independent voters is significantly lower.
42% of independents think Trump is focusing on the wrong subjects, while only 9% think the president is focused on the appropriate objectives.
Only over 40% of Americans support Trump’s approach to foreign policy, trade negotiations, and the economy, while 39% of respondents say they are generally satisfied with how he is managing the administration.
In the meantime, Trump’s approval rating is 42% among registered voters and only 29% among independent voters, according to a New York Times/Siena College poll conducted on Friday.
Trump is “exceeding the powers available to him,” according to more than half of voters, and 59% of those surveyed said the president’s second term has been “scary.”
Only 43% of respondents said they agree of Trump’s economic management, which is a sharp contrast to a Times poll conducted in April 2024 that revealed 64% of voters approved of Trump’s economy during his first term.
61% of voters believed that a president shouldn’t be able to implement tariffs without congressional approval, and half of voters disapproved of Trump’s trade policy with foreign nations.
“A President should not be able to deport legal immigrants who have protested against Israel,” according to 63% of respondents, including 40% of Republicans, according to the Times.
In addition, a poll conducted Friday by the Washington Post, ABC, and Ipsos revealed that 46% of Americans now approve of the President’s handling of immigration issues, while 53% now disapprove.
According to The Post, 90% of Democrats, 56% of independents, and 11% of Republicans currently disapprove of Trump’s immigration policies as support has drained away on the issue.
According to a Thursday Associated Press poll, roughly half of American adults believe that Trump’s trade policies will raise prices “a lot,” and another three out of ten believe that prices may rise “somewhat.” Additionally, half of Americans are “extremely” or “very” concerned about the likelihood that the US economy will enter a recession in the coming months.
According to a Fox News poll released on Wednesday, only 38% of Americans support Trump’s economic policies, while 56% oppose him.
According to the Fox News Poll, 59% of participants disapproved of inflation, and 58% disapproved of Trump’s performance.
In an NBC Stay Tuned survey, a startling 69% of members of generation Z—generally defined as those born between 1995 and 2012—said they disapprove of Trump’s management of the economy and the cost of living.
Participants from Gen Z expressed concern about inflation and lamented that they sometimes found it difficult to even afford rent, let alone purchase a home.
A minority of gen Z people interviewed also wants the people to live by traditional binary gender roles and more than 90% of those asked said they believed foreign students with visas or green cards should have the same due process rights as US citizens.
