In a statement released on Monday, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, stated that the 13-year-old boy, Master Anayo Stephen, who was allegedly kidnapped in Imo State and later found in Anambra, had been rescued and placed in safe custody.
The boy was a native of the Ubaha-Akparu community in the Ideato Local Government Area of Imo State and was found at Ideani Junction in Anambra State after allegedly elud by his kidnappers.
Master Stephen recounted his experience, saying that on August 9, 2025, at approximately 3:00 p.m., he was heading to get grass for his goats when four young men in a Hilux car came up to him pretending to be asking for directions to a specific place in his neighborhood. He engaged them without knowing their intentions, but he was reportedly kidnapped and taken to an unidentified place.
He added that his captors slept off while he was being held in the bush, which allowed him to get away. As he left the location, he ran into vigilante agents near Ideani Junction and told them about his ordeal.
According to SP Ikenga, the victim is currently in the police’s secure custody and speaks both Igbo and English fluently. In order to make it easier for the public and media to share the boy’s photo and details and aid in his identification and reunion with his family, he continued, the Command is asking for their assistance.
The police urged community collaboration and vigilance in the fight against kidnapping and other types of crime in the state, while also reassuring the public that investigations into the case are still ongoing.
