200 bandits raid town, kill police officer, loot market

Approximately 200 armed bandits launched a violent assault on Babanla town in Kwara State on Friday afternoon, resulting in the death of a police officer and the looting of the local marketplace.

Security expert and counter-insurgency analyst in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, disclosed the incident in a post shared via his X account on Saturday.

The attack, which took place around 1:00 p.m., involved the assailants arriving on motorcycles and launching an aggressive raid on the Babanla Police Station.

During the invasion, ASP Adejumo Wasiu, who was attached to ACPOL Offa, was fatally shot. The attackers also seized his AK-47 rifle.

Makama reported that although the station was thoroughly searched, no other weapons were taken as they had been securely stored at the time.

Following the police station attack, the gunmen moved to the town’s market, where they made away with a large amount of food items.

He further noted that a combined force of military troops, police personnel, local vigilantes, and hunters later mobilized in response to drive back the attackers and restore order in the area.
