Mrs. Funmilayo Ogun, a well-known leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State and a candidate for governor, has denied rumors that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is planning to take over the PDP’s political apparatus in the state.

She said she is confident that people who are leaving the ADC will eventually join the PDP again.

At a strategic meeting with her supporters from all three senatorial districts at her campaign office on Wednesday in Ado-Ekiti, Ogun maintained that the ADC does not actually threaten the PDP’s chances of winning back power in the 2026 gubernatorial election.

According to Ogun, a former Ekiti State Commissioner for Works, the PDP’s internal crisis has mostly been handled, especially with reference to the controversial National Secretary position, where Senator Samuel Anyanwu has been confirmed to remain in office.

“I’m not worried because every organisation experiences internal challenges,” Ogun said when asked about the recent PDP crisis.

“What matters is how those issues are managed. The National Working Committee, NWC, is united now, and major disputes, including the one involving the national secretary, have been addressed.

“This unity is helping resolve state-level issues like the delayed congresses,” she added.

She emphasized that the settlement process does not interfere with the party primary schedule previously announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and expressed hope that the ongoing disagreements in Ekiti State will soon be resolved.

Ogun reassured party members that the PDP is still a strong political force in Ekiti and urged them to be firm and devoted.

“I have spent the past two years engaging in consultations, reconciliation efforts, and grassroots mobilisation across all wards and communities.

“By God’s grace, I am confident of clinching the PDP ticket and leading our party to victory in 2026. I believe that by this time next year, I will be serving as the governor of Ekiti State,” she stated.

Ogun talked down the importance of the ADC’s rise as an alternative political platform, calling it a late and unimportant entry into politics.

“We are only a few months away from the primaries and the election. Anyone thinking a new party like the ADC can suddenly gain traction in Ekiti is not being realistic.

“The PDP remains alive and active. What you see today are grassroots loyalists, committed people who continue to work in their wards,” she said.

Ogun reaffirmed her dedication, saying: “I’m pushing this journey to the very end. I will win the party’s ticket, and I will win the election come 2026.”
