Candidates for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections have been warned by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) not to pursue personal goals that could jeopardize the party’s prospects of winning in February 2026.

Ismail Dogara, the chairman of the PDP FCT branch, gave the warning on Monday in Abuja as he gave the party’s candidates their INEC nomination forms.

Dogara, who expressed confidence in a landslide victory, declared that the PDP would field 62 candidates for councillorships and six candidates for chairmanships.

“During my campaign before emerging as state chairman, I said it time and again, this party is too big to remain silent. And that is why we will not be silent.

“The nomination forms are here, including those for vice chairmen. Our goal is to win. Personal ambition, if it doesn’t align with the party’s, can cost us the election,” Dogara said.

Micha Jibah, a former member of the House of Representatives, praised the candidates’ bravery in running for office and urged them to be fearless and tenacious in their campaigning.

Speaking for the candidates, Gwagwalada Chairmanship, Kasim Mohammed, expressed gratitude to all levels of the party for giving them the chance to run under the PDP banner.

To guarantee victory, he urged the party to unite.

“We have been mobilising voters for PDP ahead of Feb. 2026, but we also need your continued support. Politics is about people, and this is the people’s party.

“We believe they will give us victory.”

Mohammed also urged party leaders to continue being receptive during the campaign.

“Please, if there’s anything we need, be there for us. Don’t hesitate to respond in times of need,” he said.
