Ude Oko Chukwu, the former deputy governor of Abia State, has left the Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP.
A week after visiting Governor Alex Otti and endorsing the governor’s reelection for a second term, he resigned.
In his August 5, 2025, resignation letter to the PDP Chairman of Ndi Elu Ward in Nkporo, Ohafia LGA, Oko Chukwu stated that he had made a tough but personal decision.
Additionally, he expressed gratitude to the PDP for providing him with the opportunity to serve.
The former deputy governor did not specify in the letter what he would do next, but it is thought that he would join the Labour Party’s Nenadi Usman faction.
In Abia, there is also a lot of conjecture that Oko Chukwu will run against Senator Orji Uzor Kalu for the Abia North Senate seat.
