2027: Alia breaks silence on Benue land amid rising security concerns

Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has assured residents that his administration will not surrender any part of the state’s territory to herders.

Alia gave the assurance on Monday during a statewide thank-you tour, where he met stakeholders from the Katsina-Ala/Ukum/Logo and Kwande/Ushongo Jechira federal constituencies.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s determination to address insecurity and protect the ancestral lands belonging to Benue communities.

He also restated his commitment to protecting lives and property across the state while appreciating President Bola Tinubu for steps taken to strengthen Benue’s security architecture.

Alia identified the establishment and location of the Nigerian Army 5 Division in Benue as an important development that would enhance security and improve the state’s ability to respond to emerging threats.

He further assured traditional rulers that his administration would maintain close cooperation with them in its efforts to promote peace, resolve disputes and mobilise communities for sustainable development.

The governor’s visit to Sankera attracted traditional rulers, religious leaders, politicians, elected representatives and other community stakeholders.

During the engagement, the Tor Sankera, HRH David Sevav, urged the governor to intensify efforts aimed at restoring lasting peace to the area.

He also appealed for the rehabilitation of the waterworks and requested greater consideration for people from Sankera in government appointments.

In Kwande, Governor Alia separately met with traditional rulers, religious leaders and political stakeholders, urging them to remain united and collaborate in advancing the interests of the state.

He commended traditional rulers for their contributions to peacebuilding and their efforts to resolve disputes within their communities.

The governor also acknowledged the contributions of religious leaders towards peaceful coexistence and encouraged them to continue using their influence to promote unity among the people.

Speaking at a town hall meeting with political stakeholders, Alia called on leaders to prioritise the collective interests of Benue over personal political differences.

He urged them to work together to consolidate the achievements recorded by his administration.

The governor also held similar meetings in Jechira with traditional rulers, religious leaders and political stakeholders.

At the engagements, he emphasised the importance of unity, discipline and active participation in the development of Benue State.

Former governor Gabriel Suswam, who accompanied Alia during the Sankera visit, commended the administration for its performance, particularly the infrastructure projects being implemented across the state.

Suswam also expressed support for the re-election bids of Governor Alia and President Tinubu, urging stakeholders to maintain unity and cooperation.

The member representing Sankera Federal Constituency, Solomon Wombo, equally called for stronger political unity and increased grassroots mobilisation in support of the administration.

APC State Chairman, Benjamin Omale, thanked stakeholders from Sankera, Kwande and Jechira for their support and urged them to sustain their backing as the 2027 elections draw closer.

An APC chieftain in Kwande, Moses Ternenge, also pledged his support for Alia, Tinubu and other candidates of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
