According to reports, candidates for president under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have made a firm commitment to back the party’s flagbearer.
Rotimi Amaechi, one of the coalition movement’s presidential candidates, revealed this to LEADERSHIP on Friday.
According to the ZINGTIE, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, former vice president Atiku Abubakar, and Amaechi have all announced their plans to compete for president under the ADC.
Senator David Mark stated that the party has no preferred candidate, despite rumors that it may zone its ticket to the north so that Atiku can run against President Bola Tinubu, the ADC’s acting national chairman.
Supporters of ADC were reassured by the former Senate President that the party will be “absolutely transparent” under his direction.
Fearing that the process could be manipulated, Amaechi explained that the consensus to back the candidates who emerge will be based on a shared definition of a transparent primary.
“What we agreed in principle, and I must say there is a need to lay the cards on the table – what we agreed is that whoever emerges from a transparent primary will be supported by everyone.
“But first, we need to sit down and define what we mean by transparent because it’s easy for someone to hijack the process and still call it transparent,” he said.
