Benjamin Kalu, the deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, has refuted a media story claiming that he had announced his plan to run for Abia State governor in 2027.
According to a statement released on Sunday by Levinus Nwabugbiogu, Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Speaker, Kalu was solely concerned with his four-year mandate to represent Nigerians in general and the Bende Federal district in particular.
The statement, which called on the report’s publishers to retract it, said that the news was inaccurately reported and intended to mislead the public.
“We categorically state that the report is baseless, unfounded, and lacks credibility.
“The Deputy Speaker has not made any declaration, either privately or publicly, to contest for the governorship of Abia State in 2027,” he said.
But according to the statement, the Deputy Speaker’s “political family” will make his plans public when the time is right.
