In anticipation of Nigeria’s general elections in 2027, the Nasiru El-Rufai Solidarity Group, or Nasiriya, a new political organization under the Social Democratic Party (SDP), was officially launched in Sokoto State on Thursday.

The group’s National Coordinator, Ibrahim Babuga, who oversaw the inauguration of the new state leadership, characterized the movement as a calculated move to aid the former Kaduna State Governor’s expected presidential aspirations.

He claims that Nasiriya is a quickly growing political and social movement based on reformist principles and dedicated to the principles of inclusivity, young empowerment, and good governance.

“The organisation operates under the SDP and has gained significant traction across Northern Nigeria, especially in Kaduna, Kano, Maiduguri, Niger, Katsina, and Sokoto States.

“It aims to provide a viable alternative platform for progressive-minded Nigerians who are disenchanted with the status quo.

“Our core principles are rooted in accountability, transparency, and equitable development, values inspired by El-Rufai’s leadership record in public office,” he said.

Babuga also urged more women to run for office in the 2027 elections, pledging the group’s unwavering support for any female candidates.

He called on supporters of the SDP to keep rallying the populace and to support the party’s transformative platform.

In his remarks, Sani Romo, the SDP Chairman in Sokoto State, emphasized the party’s active participation in previous elections and its existence in the state since 1992.

El-Rufai’s admission into the SDP, he said, was a huge boost and a test of the party’s resolve to become the dominant political force in Nigeria.

“To our teeming youth, I assure you that the SDP remains committed to partnering with you in building a brighter future and delivering responsible leadership,” he said.

According to Sunusi Gidadawa, the group’s State Grand Patron, the organization was founded on a common set of principles and a shared aspiration to build a better future, particularly for Northern Nigeria.

In sectors like security, agriculture, and peaceful coexistence, he underlined the necessity for imaginative leadership that would bring back the region’s former splendor.

Sunusi Lamido, the Nasiriya State Coordinator, earlier in her speech promised to keep rallying support to make sure the campaign succeeds.

He encouraged members to continue their unflinching support and praised El-Rufai’s leadership abilities as the driving force behind their dedication.
