According to Adewole Adebayo, the Social Democratic Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, all new members of the party are aware that he will be seeking the presidency in 2027.
Adebayo stated on Friday’s Arise TV Morning Show that anyone entering the SDP would need to take it easy and learn the SDP way of doing things.
Recall that on Monday, March 10, Nasir El-Rufai, a former governor of Kaduna State, left the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the SDP.
El-Rufai stated that he left his previous party because its leaders and people had strayed from the APC’s original principles.
Many of El-Rufai’s supporters, particularly those from Kaduna State, have joined him at the SDP since he defected from the APC.
But whether he is a heavyweight or not, Adebayo stated on the TV show that everybody who joins the SDP is aware that he may be the party’s presidential candidate in 2027.
He said, “I don’t worry about that, everybody who is coming in knows that I am going to run in 2027, even everyone in my party know that I am going to run. For some of the heavyweights coming, they are heavyweights in the media. You know it’s the media people who go and serve as their press secretary and all of that.
“So when the big man is joining my party, I am in my party… there is what we call seniority, here now, I am your guest, when you come to join my party, you’re coming to learn from us, the SDP way. You might have learnt politics elsewhere but you’re coming as an ordinary member and we are open; we are fair.
“We are not like UPN, where Awolowo would be Permanent presidential candidate and others can not join, no. You can join,” Adebayo noted.
