Hope Uzodimma, the governor of Imo State, has claimed that the All Progressives Congress, APC, is growing stronger in the South East, but the Igbo community in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, has denied this.
Such assertions, it said, were blatantly exaggerated.
The Igbo Community Association, FCT President, Engineer Ikenna Ellis-Ezenekwe, claims that “President Tinubu has not done enough to deserve such an Uzodimma-engineered endorsement.”
According to him, the Igbo continue to experience marginalization and exclusion from the political and economic mainstream of the nation.
Citing the necessity for the region to reposition itself within Nigeria’s political landscape, Uzodimma has mobilized South East APC stakeholders in favor of Tinubu’s reelection. The Igbo community, however, perceives this as a last-ditch effort to hide support for Tinubu.
However, Ellis-Ezenekwe responded in a statement on Sunday, saying: “Igbos are not part of this endorsement. This is a sham, a publicity stunt by Uzodimma to boost his own political career.”
The Igbo community urged other Nigerians to oppose Tinubu’s reelection campaign, claiming that the president had a dismal record and was uncommitted to solving the nation’s urgent problems.
The group went further to say: “APC is not popular in Igboland. It’s only Uzodimma and a few others who are trying to force it down our throats.”
Uzodimma’s claim that Tinubu’s changes are working was also questioned by the community, which claimed the reverse.
“The economy is in shambles, insecurity is rampant, and our children are suffering,” said Ellis-Ezenekwe, adding: “What reforms is he talking about?”
The Igbo community demanded that Tinubu’s administration and the APC answer to the people and deal with the urgent problems facing the nation.
“We want to see action, not just words.
“This is not just about Igbo; it’s about Nigeria’s future,” said Ellis-Ezenekwe.
