INEC (the Independent National Electoral Commission) has suggested a budget of ₦873.78 billion for the upcoming general elections.

On Thursday, during INEC’s proposed budget presentation, the proposal was submitted by the Commission’s Chairman, Prof Joash Amupitan.

The budget proposal for the 2027 general elections by INEC amounts to ₦873.78 billion, which includes an allocation of more than ₦200 billion for election technology.

During a presentation of the proposed budget to a joint committee of the Senate and House of Representatives on Electoral Matters, Amupitan stated that the budget is divided into five primary components.

The INEC chairman stated that ₦375.75 billion is designated for election operations.

He stated that ₦92.31 billion would be allocated for election administration expenses.

Amupitan indicated that the budget for election technology is set at ₦209.21 billion.

He added that out of this amount, ₦154.90 billion is designated for election capital costs, and ₦41.61 billion is allocated for miscellaneous expenses.
