According to Sule Lamido, a former governor of Jigawa State, former President Goodluck Jonathan is the PDP’s best candidate for president in 2027.

In an appearance on Channels Television’s “Politics Today” program on Friday, Lamido made this statement and urged the PDP to work hard to get him back.

“I think for PDP now they should try and woo him; he is their best bet. To me, he is their best bet. Anybody put forth by the PDP, Nigerians will support him,” he said.

No present party member from the South can compare to Jonathan’s experience, he said, adding that he understands governance from his previous experience as the country’s leader.

Lamido’s remarks coincide with ongoing rumors that Jonathan would rejoin the PDP and run for president again in 2027.

However, the party has formally denied actively courting the former president or offering him its ticket.

Political sources assert that despite these denials, there are covert attempts among the main opposition to convince the former president to run in order to establish him as a formidable opponent of President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming general election.
