Kenneth Okonkwo, a former Labour Party presidential spokesperson, has stated that President Bola Tinubu cannot be defeated by a single candidate in 2027.
According to him, a coalition is the only option available to the nation’s opposition leaders.
Speaking on the trend of politicians defecting from one party to another, with influential figures joining the ruling party, Okonkwo claimed that politicians joining the APC are doing so for their own benefit.
According to ZINGTIE, a lot of Nigerians are doubting the stability and power of the nation’s party system.
Additionally, there are concerns that Nigeria might be moving closer to being a one-party state.
In an interview with Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Okonkwo said he was confident the coalition will be established, but he was unable to name its leader.
“Moving to 2027, I know that there will be a coalition. Whether it is going to be between Peter Obi and Atiku, I don’t know, but there will be a coalition.
“Why? Because that will be the only choice the opposition has to make any impact,” Okonkwo said.
He clarified, however, that Tinubu would become invincible if the coalition could not be formed, adding that the President would retake power “outrightly, he will just walk into it.”
Since “in Nigeria, we have entered into the unfortunacy that you will not only win but you have to secure your victory,” Okonkwo is adamant that no single candidate can defeat Tinubu in 2027.
He went on to say that the elites will overthrow Tinubu in 2027 if they can band together like they did in 2014 to challenge Goodluck Jonathan in 2015.
According to Okonkwo, the notion that the APC will write their 2027 election results is the reason why members of the opposition party have recently defected to the party.
He said that “it is an absurdity that people will see a sinking house and be running into it for shelter,” adding that they were making the believe that “APC will write results for them.”
Sheriff Oborevwori, the governor of Delta State, just became the most recent incumbent governor to formally defect from the PDP to the ruling APC.
