The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has ridiculed former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi’s assertion that he could defeat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu if granted the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In a statement released on Saturday, the party dismissed Amaechi’s comments as “the desperate outburst of a political has-been seeking relevance,” stressing that he lacks the necessary credentials, political connections, and broad-based support to mount a credible challenge against the president.
“The notion that he could unseat a sitting president-elected with a clear mandate and respected across all regions, on the platform of a fringe party like the ADC is not only unrealistic but also absurd,” the statement read.
The Lagos APC also criticized the former Rivers State governor for political inconsistency, noting that he failed to win even in his own polling unit during the recent election. It rejected his claim of knowing Tinubu’s “weaknesses,” attributing it to bitterness from a troubled political career.
“While President Tinubu has built leaders, strengthened institutions, and left behind a track record of performance, Amaechi’s political journey has been marked by internal wrangling, disloyalty, and self-serving ambitions,” the party said.
