According to Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, a former Special Adviser on Political Matters to President Bola Tinubu, people in the North West will hold political leaders responsible in the general elections of 2027 because of their experiences with poverty, violence, and insecurity.

Baba-Ahmed, who just left the Tinubu administration, made the statement in response to the All Progressives Congress, or APC, in the North West endorsing President Tinubu for a second term.

Tajudeen Abass, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, made a resolution in favor of Tinubu’s reelection campaign over the weekend in Kaduna, where the endorsement took place. Nasir Idris, the governor of Kebbi State, seconded the motion. The APC governors in the area were also automatically nominated for a second term.

The President is still dedicated to the advancement of the area and the nation as a whole, according to APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, who made the announcement of the endorsements.

In a post on X, Baba-Ahmed, however, criticized the action and charged that the ruling elite was disregarding the people.

“APC governors in the North West recently endorsed PBAT, endorsed themselves and every elected office holder and defector from the region.

“They forgot the people who will judge all politicians against their exposure to violence, death and poverty. It’s almost as if they think people don’t matter,” he wrote.
