Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, has urged political figures to avoid diverting President Bola Tinubu’s attention with discussions of the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking to reporters in Osogbo on Sunday, Oyintiloye made the plea, urging lawmakers to concentrate on helping the president handle pressing national concerns.
Oyintiloye claims that when President Tinubu took office in 2023, he took over an economy beset by excessive debt levels, a volatile Naira, and an unsustainable gasoline subsidy system.
“Through his technocratic background, halfway through his administration, he had rekindled a ray of hope that many Nigerians seemed to have given up on,” Oyintiloye said.
He pointed out that the nation was starting to see real benefits from important measures including the elimination of fuel subsidies and the unification of several exchange rates.
The former congressman voiced alarm about certain people’s hasty political scheming, cautioning that it would make it more difficult for the president to deal with pressing national issues.
He lamented that, “Some people are already jostling to be Vice President. The President is facing serious tasks to keep the economy healthy, defeat the evil of insurgency, and fix critical infrastructures.”
He attacked individuals he called political opportunists for creating needless commotion that would impede the government’s growth plans.
“It is becoming nauseating, to say the least. The 2027 election is still over a year and a half away, and yet those chasing positions won’t allow the President to work,” he stated.
Oyintiloye emphasized that the present administration had just been in office for two years and asked political players to be patient and restrained.
He stated that the emphasis should continue to be on government rather than political intrigue, saying, “There are many pressing national matters that the President is attending to at the moment.
“What the President needs at this point in time is our collective support, prayers, solidarity, and not unnecessary clamour for power struggle ahead of 2027.”
