2027: PDP Chieftain finally reveals what the party will do to members endorsing Tinubu

Ahead of the 2027 elections, Emmanuel Ogidi, the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) South-South zone caretaker committee, has promised that the party will not hold back from disciplining members who are discovered to be involved in anti-party actions.

Ogidi denied allegations that the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, had any influence on the recent zoning of the PDP presidential ticket to the South in an interview on Channels Television’s breakfast show, The Morning Brief, on Tuesday.

When asked about PDP members who have publicly supported President Bola Tinubu, including Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Ogidi responded, “We are watching our members and of course, any party that does not have discipline cannot succeed. We will discipline any erring members,” he said on the show.

While accusing the APC of trying to destabilize the South, the PDP chieftain maintained that their attempts had been unsuccessful.

“APC has been running towards the South because they want to destabilise the South; they are trying to weaken us in the South, but they failed,” he said.

Among those who recently defected from the PDP to the ADC opposition group were former lawmakers Dino Melaye and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

In response to inquiries concerning defections and reconciliations, Ogidi insisted that while the PDP would keep interacting with resentful members, it would not put up with willful acts of sabotage.

“We are in reconciliation. If it doesn’t work, then we are going to apply the big stick. As for those who have left, our doors are always open. At the time they left, many were unsure of the party’s direction, but now we are more certain and I believe they will return,” he warned.

He also emphasized that the PDP’s immediate goal was to restore public trust following years of internal strife, which included leadership battles and disagreements over the position of national secretary, rather than to focus on people.

“This is the People’s Democratic Party. We don’t headhunt for candidates; our doors are open for those who wish to come in.

“For now, our pursuit is not about the candidate but about regaining the confidence of Nigerians. PDP is not owned by any individual; it belongs to the people,” Ogidi said.
