Eddy Olafeso, a member of the PDP’s reconciliation committee, has instructed the party to negotiate an alliance with Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, and other leaders of opposition parties in advance of the general elections in 2027.

It is the only surefire way to beat the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027, he thinks.

Following his departure from the PDP, Obi joined the Labour Party to run for president in 2023.

The former governor of Anambra State ran under the Labour Party and received 6,101,533 votes, placing him third overall, according to INEC, the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Many of his supporters continue to believe that the election was rigged, even if he actually won however, that remains unconfirmed.

When asked if the crisis-ridden main opposition party has to court Obi in order to have a chance against the APC in 2027, Olafeso spoke on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday.

According to him, “Not only Peter Obi, every person that is somebody in this country that can actually garner one or two votes must be spoken with.”

Without a solid coalition, it would be challenging for any one political party to topple the APC, according to the PDP chieftain.

“It is not only here that you have alliances; you have people working together to be able to win an election.

“It happened in Ghana not quite a long time ago and that is exactly what we all should do at this moment, no single party can defeat the APC alone, don’t let us delude ourselves. We must all come together to fight,” Olafeso added.

He accused the PDP leadership of causing the party to become more divided before the 2023 election, which ultimately led to the party’s defeat.

Olafeso lamented the PDP leadership’s failure to maintain unity before the 2023 election, pointing out that the combined votes of Atiku and Obi would have pushed Tinubu to a far-off second.
