Tajudeen Yusuf, a former member of the House of Representatives, has warned the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to focus their 2027 presidential ticket on the southern area or face disintegration.

When he hosted Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, Yusuf—an ally of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike—issued this warning.

“No single politician can win an election without collective goodwill.

“Zone to the south and see what will happen, but if we continue this trajectory and continue to progress in error, we are postponing the doomsday,” he stated.

During their meeting on Monday, Wike and other G5 members pushed for the PDP to allocate its 2027 presidential ticket to the southern part of the nation, according to ZINGTIE.

Zoning the 2027 ticket to the South, in Yusuf’s opinion, would bring the party back together and draw important members like Peter Obi from the Labour Party.

“If today, the PDP ticket is zoned to the South, I have a conviction Peter Obi will be more comfortable coming to PDP, but if it’s not zoned and the dynamics and dialectics of primaries are allowed to play, he might not, just like he moved when it was not zoned and guaranteed a vice presidency. PDP should do the right thing first,” he said.

He also discussed Atiku Abubakar’s current political status, stating that the former vice president is currently involved in coalition negotiations rather than the PDP.

The PDP chieftain blamed a contentious northern zoning plan and bad leadership choices for the party’s defeat in the 2023 presidential election.

He cited the PDP’s internal divisions as a major factor in the party’s loss, especially the consequences of Atiku’s campaign.

Yusuf expressed sorrow that the PDP’s 2023 campaign exacerbated party men’s grievances and bemoaned the recent defection of Ifeanyi Okowa, the party’s vice presidential candidate and former governor of Delta State, to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
