Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, has urged the the Progressives Congress (APC) members to put President Bola Tinubu’s reelection in 2027 ahead of their own political aspirations.
Keyamo made this claim on Monday during the Channels Television show “Politics Today.”
He emphasized that Tinubu’s second term is necessary to finish the governance reforms he has started.
“Every single APC member in Nigeria today should be concentrating on the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu irrespective of whether it affects your personal interest or not because he does need a second term to fully finish up all these reforms,” he said.
He added that it would be catastrophic for any government to take power in 2027 and halt all of these improvements, adding that, “This is what has happened in the past when you had all the inchoate policies that were implemented.”
The Minister gave Keyamo the leadership of the party in Delta State after Sheriff Oborevwori, who was from Keyamo’s home state, recently defected to the APC.
The minister claimed that in order to fortify the APC and increase President Tinubu’s prospects of winning reelection in 2027, such sacrifices were required.
“Whether I have to make sacrifices like yesterday where we surrendered (party leadership in Delta), it is all irrelevant so long as we are strengthening APC the more for the re-election of Mr President.
“I don’t care whether it affects me, I don’t care whether I lose out politically, Mr President must be elected,” he added.
He stated that Delta was one of the PDP’s biggest backers and that the governor’s defection was one of the main things that helped the APC in the run-up to the national elections in 2027.
