2027: Umahi Reveals What He Says Could Change Things In South-East

Minister of Works, David Umahi, has said the South-East has witnessed a level of federal attention under President Bola Tinubu that, according to him, was not seen under previous administrations.

Umahi pointed to federal appointments, political inclusion and infrastructure projects as evidence of what he described as the administration’s commitment to the region.

The minister made the remarks on Tuesday in Abuja while receiving a report from the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, following its nationwide tour of federal roads.

According to Umahi: “No other President has done what President Tinubu has done for the South-East, whether by appointment, inclusion or projects.”

Umahi also addressed the political implications of developments in the region ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The minister said increased political education among residents of the South-East would reduce the number of votes that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, would receive.

He further stated that Obi would not win the 2027 presidential election.

Umahi said: “The more we educate our people, the less votes Peter Obi will get. Peter Obi cannot win in 2027.”

The former Ebonyi State governor also urged leaders in the South-East to engage residents more actively and explain what he described as the achievements of the Tinubu administration in the region.

He added: “It is important for the leaders of the South-East to be bold, vocal and speak to our people, the Igbos, about what President Tinubu has done and is doing for the Igbos.”

Umahi’s remarks were made amid growing political activity and competing positions among political actors in the South-East ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
