Popular writer and public affairs commentator Comrade Bashiru has clarified that without Leke Abejide, the African Democratic Congress’s sole member of the House of Representatives, the opposition coalition cannot defeat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the general election of 2027.
This was revealed by Bashiru during a briefing held over the weekend in Abuja.
He asserted that Abejide, the head of the 10th Nigerian National Assembly’s Committee on Customs and Exercise, ought to be included in the party’s activities.
He cautioned that leaving Abejide out of the party’s plans would not only exacerbate internal strife but also perhaps lead to the coalition’s total disintegration.
“Consequently, it is imperative to categorically state that all efforts, time, and resources committed to the coalition are futile in the absence of Hon. Leke,” he added.
In an attempt to depose President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, the opposition alliance led by the ADC appointed David Mark, a former president of the Nigerian Senate, as its acting chairman.
Political heavyweights that have embraced ADC include former Kaduna and Rivers governors Nasir El-Rufai and Rotimi Amaechi, as well as former Nigerian vice president Atiku Abubakar.
However, the David Mark-led temporary leadership has been rejected by ADC party members, including Dumebi Kachikwu, the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election.
