Chief Okoi Obono-Obla, a former aide to the president, has stated that he no longer has faith in the All Progressives Congress (APC) after the party’s national convention.

This disclosure was made by Obono-Obla in a statement he issued in Calabar titled ‘Reflections on My Party Journey’.

The former head of the Special Presidential Panel on Recovery of Public Property during Ex-President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure had expressed his interest in running for the APC National Secretary position. However, he was informed that the previous zoning arrangement was still in effect, resulting in the incumbent being returned to office.

Then, Obono-Obla announced his interest in the position of National Publicity Secretary. But once more, he was refused.

In response to the result of the national convention, he penned:
“My faith in the Party to which I have given my all since 2013 is now badly shaken, more than ever before.

“In 2022, the Party denied me the opportunity to contest as a Senatorial Candidate, but I did not mind. I continued to work tirelessly for its success at both the National and State Elections in 2023.

“Day after day, I dedicated myself to promoting, propagating, and defending the Party and its government across social, traditional, and new media. Yet, as I reflect and ponder my next move, it seems that some individuals who only recently joined the Party are working hard to push out foundation members—sadly, with the support of the leadership.”

He expressed that the situation necessitates profound reflection, though his commitment is beyond doubt; however, the way forward must be selected with clarity and bravery.

With a hint of anger, he remarked that the fight for relevance and acknowledgment within the party continued.

He nevertheless confirmed that his determination to uphold his personal principles is still intact.
