All Progressives Congress, APC, chieftain Okoi Obono-Obla has dismissed the Rainbow Coalition led by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, describing it as a “comic relief”.
Obono-Obla made the remark during an interview on Arise Television, where he questioned the political significance of the proposed coalition.
The APC chieftain argued that the Rainbow Coalition does not qualify as a political party capable of sponsoring candidates in an election.
He also expressed doubts about the possibility of opposition parties successfully forming a united front behind a single candidate for the 2027 general elections.
According to him, the proposed arrangement faces legal obstacles that could prevent it from becoming a viable political platform.
“So I think that the Rainbow Coalition is a comic relief. Yes, because there’s nothing that will come out of it. It’s not a political party that sponsors candidates.
“Nigerian politicians can be dramatic. The opposition’s proposal to unite behind a single candidate is comic relief.
“Neither the Constitution nor the Electoral Act provides for political parties to come together behind one candidate.
“INEC has already cleared the list of candidates, and any changes must go through the commission. What is being proposed is therefore not legally attainable,” he said.
