A total of 35 Nigerian nationals, including five children, have been deported from the Republic of Ireland.

The group was transported via a chartered flight that departed Dublin Airport on Wednesday night.

As reported by the Irish Mirror, the deportees consisted of 21 men, nine women, and five children. They arrived in Nigeria on Thursday.

Ireland’s Minister for Justice, Jim O’Callaghan, stated he was “happy to say” that the group had successfully returned to Nigeria, despite an unplanned landing prompted by a medical emergency during the flight.

While Irish authorities did not disclose specific reasons behind the deportations, O’Callaghan emphasized that “Ireland has a rules-based immigration system. It is important that those rules are robust and enforced.”
