Mrs. Uzoma Chinyere Ndubuisi, a 64-year-old Nigerian woman, was stuck at Cairo International Airport after EgyptAir allegedly confiscated her passport upon arrival, preventing her from making her journey to the United Kingdom.

When she arrived at Cairo Airport, Ndubuisi, who was travelling to Manchester, says her passport was removed for immigration processing and was not returned for more than three hours. She was abandoned at the airport throughout this period without any help or backing from the airline.

In an interview with reporters, Ndubuisi detailed EgyptAir’s lack of assistance, saying that even though the airline was aware of her predicament, she was not given any lodging or enough supplies, such as food and water. She was also upset that the airline had not followed through on their promise of assistance.

When the shuttle to the airport arrived late, she missed her 8:55 AM connecting flight to Manchester. The aeroplane had already taken off by the time she reached the terminal.

Obinna Okali, her son, has formally petitioned EgyptAir to take responsibility for the airline’s purported incompetence. Okali claimed in the appeal that his mother missed her flight because of unhelpful actions by EgyptAir employees.

“The actions of EgyptAir staff directly contributed to my mother missing her flight. Yet, they have shown no consideration for her welfare or empathy for her situation,” Okali wrote.

He continued by describing his mother’s physical and emotional suffering after she was left without basic requirements and spent hours in extreme mental anguish at the airport.

Okali has demanded that EgyptAir promptly reschedule his mother’s ticket to Manchester on the earliest available date and compensation for the trauma she endured.

“I kindly request an immediate resolution, including rebooking my mother on the next available flight and offering compensation for the physical and emotional trauma,” the petitioner said.

Additionally, he warned the airline, adding,  “Should anything untoward happen to our mother during this ordeal, we will hold EgyptAir entirely responsible.”

EgyptAir has not officially addressed the accusations or the worries expressed by Ndubuisi’s family as of this writing.
