The Children, Sexual and Gender-based Violence Offences Court in Awka docked a 65-year-old pastor, Francis Ogu, on Wednesday for allegedly defiling his 10-year-old domestic helper.

Ogu, who lives in Umuike village in Awka, was accused of defilement by the police.

The accused committed the crime on June 27 at his home, according to the prosecution’s attorney, Inspector Chinyere Okechukwu, who testified in court.

The accused allegedly sexually abused the minor, according to the police.

She claimed that the offence was in violation of Section 35(2) of the 2004 Anambra State Child Right Law.

However, the defendant entered a not guilty plea to the accusation.

Chief Magistrate Genevieve Osakwe granted the accused N500,000 in bail, with one surety in the same amount, in her decision.

The case was adjourned until August 21 for hearing
