According to local authorities, a Russian airstrike on the southern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhya on Monday morning resulted in sixteen injuries.

According to claims in Ukrainian media, it was perhaps the first time that glide bombs had been used against a city.

The Ukrainian police stated that many cars, two kindergartens, and thirteen residential buildings were damaged during the overnight incident.

The city is roughly sixty kilometers away from the Russian military-occupied Zaporizhzhya nuclear power facility.

Glide bombs are reportedly dropped close to the front lines by Russian fighter jets. Then, spanning many dozen kilometers, the explosives are guided to their targets.

These bombs, which included several hundred kg of explosives, seriously damaged Kharkiv, a city in eastern Ukraine, as well as other locations.

Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, is asking for authorization to use Western weaponry against Russian air bases close to the front lines in order to thwart such strikes.

However, Kyiv’s most powerful friends have been hesitant to move closer to confrontation with Russia for fear of doing so.
