Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, is presently facing criticism for unveiling a golden statue of Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of Nigeria.

The First Lady was at Ife to witness the opening of a dorm and a 2.7-kilometer road that the Ooni of Ife, who named it after Remi Tinubu, had donated to Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile Ife. The first lady said that she had graduated from OAU 41 years prior and had also donated N1 billion to the institution.

The Ooni of Ife praised the President’s wife for being a role model for children since her time as Lagos State’s first lady during her speech at the function. He revealed that he had been a great admirer of hers, particularly since she led the One Day Governor initiative in Lagos, giving young secondary school girls and boys the chance to become governors of their city. “This is a milestone and a major inspiration for the younger ones to aspire and prosper,” the Ooni added.

After that, he sculpted a golden figure for the First Lady, which he presented at Obafemi Awolowo University on Friday, October 11. He said that the statue represents her extraordinary leadership, dedication to learning, and support of women’s emancipation.
