According to the Defence Headquarters on Thursday, following offensive operations in Orsu and Obubra LGAS of Imo and Cross River States, respectively, troops of Operation UDO KA at FOB Orsu launched a sting operation and captured a terrorist leader known as Mr. Pius Iguh.

While speaking to the media at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja, Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, disclosed that troops also spoke about IPOB/ESN in Abia State’s Arochukwu LGA.

According to General Buba, Mr. Pius Iguh, who was arrested, is a founding father of IPOB, an organisation that controls the Orsu general region in Imo State.

Additionally, he stated that troops apprehended IPOB/ESN in Imo State’s Ehime Mbano, Oguta, and Orsu LGAs during a sting operation as well as Udenu LGA of Enugu State respectively.

In another development, an IPOB leader was raided by forces at FOB Amaruku. The successful raid in Mbano LGA, Abia State, resulted in the identification of the commander as Emmanuel Onwugu. Another development involved a joint sting operation by security forces and military.

According to General Buba, the operation resulted in the capture of ten of Ifeanyi Rock’s fighters and a known cult leader in Arochukwu LGA, Abia State.

In total, Operation UDO KA soldiers detained 12 violent extremists, neutralised 24 terrorists, and freed one captive who had been abducted.

Among other things, troops found 153 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, 10 AK-47 rifles, and 15 pump action pistols.
